Rider Updates

Messages of support

Happy New Year and welcome to 2012. Building on the success of Cycle for SMILE in 2011, specifically the cycle leg Darwin to Broome (Kathmandu 1875), it is proposed that an iconic Australian destination be selected to invite you to participate in a new cycle to continue to raise awareness and funds for the SMILE Foundation.

Cycle for SMILE covered a distance of 15,700km over 80 days covering the circumference of Australia. We would like to commemorate this amazing achievement and propose that the Cycle for SMILE team and friends return to ride together again, this time to cycle around scenic Tasmania.

It is envisaged that riders would fly in and out of Hobart to complete ~1300km over 8 days and we would plan on four en route events on Bruny Island, in Strahan, Launceston and Hobart. This ride will be more social and incorporate varied accommodation and winery tours. The proposed dates are Sunday 20th January - Sunday 27th January 2013.

We hope that you will return to take part in Cycle for SMILE Tasmania (CFST).

To secure your place, please contact Sharonne Antonir on:
santonir@smilefoundation.com.au or 0409 601 605.

As always, thank you for your continued support of SMILE.

On 17th September 2011, a team of six everyday Australians completed a circuit around the country, raising much needed funds for children who suffer from rare diseases. Leaving families and work life behind, the endeavor covered 15,700km, averaging a staggering 220km per day over 80 days.

Cycling more than five times the distance of the Tour de France, the journey began in Sydney and took the team anticlockwise around mainland Australia. The Cycle for SMILE team challenged themselves to their physical and mental limits while promoting awareness and raising funds for the SMILE Foundation.

The SMILE (Supporting Medical Innovation for Life Enhancement) Foundation provides financial assistance to families whose children suffer from rare diseases as well as much needed funding into medical research.
